Real Results: E-Collar Training Gloucestershire in Action

Want reliable off-lead control around real-world distractions?

Watch Luke and his dog Nina demonstrate the final stage of our e-collar training in Gloucestershire — working calmly and under control around livestock.

Like many owners we work with across Gloucester, Cheltenham and the Cotswolds, Nina once struggled with:
• No recall
• No trust off lead
• Chasing livestock and wildlife

Now his dog has reliable recall, calm behaviour around sheep, and the freedom to be off lead without risk.

This is what professional e-collar training in Gloucestershire is designed to achieve — real-world results, not just obedience in a quiet field.

Based in the Forest of Dean, Precision K9 works with dog owners across Gloucester, Cheltenham, Stroud, Cirencester, Tewkesbury, the Cotswolds and the wider South West to deliver structured recall training that actually holds up when it matters.

If your dog is chasing livestock, ignoring recall, or can’t be trusted off lead — this is exactly what this training is built for.

Clarity creates control. Control creates freedom.

The e-collar doesn’t replace training — it makes it hold up in the real world.

Where I stand on e‑collars

The e‑collar is controversial because it’s often misused. That’s not how I train.

  • I work reward‑first—bond, play, food, engagement.

  • The e‑collar is introduced at your dog’s lowest perceivable level—think a tap on the shoulder, not a punishment.

  • It’s used as an emergency brake and as a clean, consistent cue that cuts through prey drive—then immediately switched off the moment your dog makes the right choice.

  • I build motivated, reliable dogs and confident handlers through clear communication, trust, and real-world training. Every method is ethical, fair, and designed to strengthen the bond between dog and owner for life.

  • I live an incredible life with my dogs— exploring, training, and living a life of true freedom built on trust, and that’s the life I want you to experience too.

Important: We begin with a consultation. If I don’t believe an e‑collar is appropriate for your dog, we won’t use one. Full stop.

The right training with the right tool gives dogs freedom and owners peace of mind.

The Mavis story

When I brought home Mavis at just under six months old, she was everything you’d expect from a young Malinois—explosive prey drive, raw athleticism, huge potential—but almost no life experience or socialisation. Her food and toy motivation were phenomenal, and I built a powerful recall around livestock such as sheep, horses and other prey animals like rabbits, cats etc.

But deer were her kryptonite.

The moment she scented them, instinct took over. One night she bolted after a herd and reached a fast road within seconds. I genuinely thought I’d lost her. That moment changed everything—I realised I had an incredible dog with a dangerous hole in her training.

So I went back to work.

I strengthened her foundation, increased motivation, layered desensitisation, and used a long line to prevent rehearsing the chase. We hunted down distractions daily and made real progress, but one problem remained: once she was locked onto deer, nothing on earth could break through. Her recall was flawless in every other environment—but this? This was different.

A long line in heavy woodland was unsafe. It caught on branches, risked injury, and didn’t give me reliable control when it mattered most.

With years of experience training alongside police and military handlers—and after completing professional e-collar education—I knew it was time to use a tool that would give me communication beyond instinct. Not punishment. Not shortcuts. Clear communication when it mattered most.

I followed a modern, step-by-step e-collar process—from low-level conditioning to full proofing in real environments. Within weeks, everything changed. Mavis began calmly checking in around deer.

No bolting. No panic. No conflict. Just freedom, safety and confidence—for both of us.

Result: a happy, stable, reliable dog who can enjoy real off-lead freedom anywhere.

That’s exactly what I want for every client: freedom through fairness, clarity, and ethical training.

What you and your dog will learn

  • A recall that works when it matters—not just on the training field.

  • Trust and clarity: your dog knows how to win and is reinforced for it.

  • Calm, confident handling: you won’t white‑knuckle every walk.

  • Ethical e‑collar literacy: fitment, levels, timing, and when to leave it in the cupboard.

Who this is for (and not for)

Great fit if your dog has obedience in most contexts but recall collapses around wildlife, livestock, runners/cyclists, roads etc.
Not a fit if you want to “shock a problem away,” or skip the motivation and relationship work. That’s not my program.

If your dog lacks engagement or reliable obedience, we’ll build those foundations first—so your dog is properly prepared for E-collar training.

FAQs About E-Collar Training

A smiling service dog wearing a blue bandana with 'Precision K9 Luke Applesy' logo sitting at a desk in an office with a computer, notepad, and keyboard.
  • Cruelty is in misuse. We work at minimal levels and switch off the instant your dog turns to you. The collar is a clear, consistent signal layered on top of motivation—not a punishment machine.

  • Used correctly alongside rewards and smart exposure, dogs get more confident because expectations are clear and success is reinforced.

  • No trainer can guarantee biology. What I do provide is a robust, repeatable system that has delivered exceptionally reliable recall for dogs like Mavis with extremely high prey drive.

  • Yes—ethically and legally. We don’t harass wildlife or trespass. We proof at safe distances and increase difficulty thoughtfully.

  • Absolutely not. This is a fully coached program with follow up support. Tools without knowledge, experience and coaching create problems.

The 4-Stage Freedom Method

A proven step-by-step system for building real off-lead reliability.

Stage 1 – Foundation & Communication

We build engagement, motivation and clarity before the e-collar is introduced. Your dog learns to think under guidance—not guess or panic.

  • Name response & markers (yes / good / free)
  • Food and toy motivation
  • Engagement and focus
  • Recall foundation

Stage 2 – E-Collar Conditioning

The e-collar becomes a form of communication—not punishment. Your dog learns what low-level stimulation means and how to respond calmly.

  • Low-level pairing
  • Pressure → release timing
  • Finding working level
  • Clear, fair conditioning

Stage 3 – Real-World Application

Training moves outdoors and your dog learns to hold recall and focus in real environments with growing distraction.

  • Long-line transition
  • Confidence outside
  • Environmental proofing
  • Structured recall

Stage 4 – Reliability Under Challenge

This is where freedom is earned. Your dog can now recall through instinct-level distractions—anywhere.

  • High-drive control
  • Wildlife & livestock reliability
  • Distance recall
  • Neutrality around triggers

Let’s build reliability you can trust.
