Where I stand on e-collars
The tool does not replace training.
My aim is not to create a dog that recalls because it is frightened of a consequence. I want the dog to understand the communication, trust the system and genuinely value returning to the handler.

- Clear conditioning: the dog is taught what low-level e-collar communication means rather than being expected to guess.

Why I use this system
Mavis had one dangerous hole in otherwise excellent training.
Her recall was strong around livestock, horses and most prey animals, but deer could override everything. After one chase took her frighteningly close to a fast road, I knew motivation and long-line management alone were not enough for that specific problem.
I strengthened the foundation, increased the value of returning, worked on desensitisation and prevented rehearsal of the chase. The e-collar was then introduced as an additional communication layer and progressively proofed in real environments.
The outcome I wanted was not a suppressed dog. It was a happy, motivated dog with the communication required to enjoy far greater freedom safely.

Is an e-collar used to punish the dog?
No. My programme is built around motivation, clear conditioning and reinforcement. The e-collar is introduced as a communication layer after foundations are in place, not as a substitute for teaching the dog what you want.
Will my dog become fearful?
The aim of the programme is clarity and predictable communication. Training is progressive, low-level and paired with reinforcement. If I do not believe the tool is appropriate for a particular dog, I will not use it.
Does e-collar training guarantee recall?
No trainer can guarantee biology in every situation. What I provide is a structured, repeatable system designed to produce exceptionally reliable recall and give the handler a clear communication layer when distraction becomes powerful.
Do you train around livestock and wildlife?
Yes, where appropriate and safely managed. Proofing is carried out at suitable distances and difficulty is increased progressively without harassing livestock or wildlife.
Is the e-collar included in the programme price?
No. I will recommend the appropriate Dogtra model for your dog during the assessment so you purchase the correct equipment rather than buying blindly.
